Hi Everyone,
I just got word that your mock exam scores are coming soon. The scorers- who are teachers like myself- had to score over 10,000 essays with 4,500 being from CT!!!! Many of the essays fell in the 4 range, very few fell in the 9 range. That said, we still have a few months to kick it up a notch...and if you are willing to do your part, I am willing to help you along the way. ;)
These are some common trends the scorers saw in the essays:
Laundry listing of terms and strategies (You know who you are!!!)
Formulaic writing (Derek this one is for you...like I said, THERE IS NO FORMULA!!!)
Paraphrasing (You all have improved on this but sometimes some of you sneak in too
much paraphrasing)
Summarization (UGH)
Misunderstand of prompt (Hmmmm.....)
Going off task (Yup- that is why we have a THESIS!)
Voice coming through (Be careful- focus on critical analysis)
Effectively developing a position (more for rhetoric but also goes with effective
thesis statements or lack thereof)
Persuasive analysis (for language and composition more so...)
So, when we get back from vacation we have something to think and talk about. ;)
