First Draft Writing: Thesis Statements
1. LT of the Week (come up with an example every night- paradox pg 56 in essential lit terms). Put definition on cards with examples for homework- 4 examples due by Friday.
Update “Story of an Hour” and A Doll’s House.
2. Check first drafts
Mini Lesson- The fundamentals of thesis statements
• What are they?
• Where are they in the drafts? (highlight them)

Second Draft Writing: Topic Sentences
1. Book Box Lesson- Selecting topic sentences in one paragraph- and explain the importance of topic sentences.
• Students define topic sentences then students identify, highlight, and revise their topic sentences with conciseness and clarity.
HWK- Rewrite draft with corrections

Third Draft Writing: Incorporating Evidence
1. Sandwich theory- find evidence/support from 20 essays book- students highlight textual evidence and identify how the evidence is incorporated and connected to the topic sentence and thesis.
2. Students highlight evidence in their own pieces.
HWK- Rewrite draft with corrections
Create 3 questions or comments about your paper that you want to address with me for a teacher conference the next class.
